The new quali®cations are to be expressed in terms of the competencies required for working in these ®elds at various levels. The effect of NVQs is to emphasise output in the form of competence in action rather than input in the form of academic quali®cation as the basis for certi®cation. BACP is likely to acknowledge NVQs as an additional way of satisfying accreditation requirements.
